Arewa Youth Decries Ahmed’s reappointment, Plea For His Sack Over Incompetence

Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar Rufa’i, the recently reappointed Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), has been asked to voluntarily resign from his reappointment by the coalition of Arewa Youth Groups, or they will be forced to conduct a demonstration against him.

The Northern Groups, a conglomeration of over 40 youth groups in Northern Nigeria, stated Amb. Ahmed’s appointment was unjustified given his track record of incompetence.

The communique was signed by Dr. Kabir Dan-Azumi, Chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, Comrade I B Bala, Secretary of the Communique Drafting Committee, and Mal. Iliyasu Danlad, Chairman of the Coalition of Arewa Youth Groups.

They stated in their statements that while it is the President’s responsibility to designate the NIA DG, he should have first sought feedback and guidance from the National Security Adviser before validating the appointment.

Because most security agencies are commanded by Northerners, their research suggested that President Buhari is acting passively as a sentimentalist as a result of the appointment.

They claimed that the appointment will help to improve Mr. President’s image by bringing in a southerner into his security apparatus.

According to our research, Amb. Ahmed is a drab man who failed three tests before being promoted to director. He was forced to quit owing to his inability to pass his promotion exams, but now we’re providing him the chance to serve over those who are well aware of his lack of knowledge.

The reappointment of Amb Ahmed is more of a burden than a blessing for NIA. As things are, the directors, staff, and DG will have an uneasy relationship.

Due to this nomination, Mr. President is acting passively as a sentimentalist. Because most security organizations are led by northerners, there would have been an opportunity for Mr. President to clean his image by incorporating a southerner into his security architecture.

They demanded that President Buhari rescind the appointment, claiming that it has sparked an internal crisis within the agency, exposing that it is on the verge of failing and losing its missions.
